I sure am glad that I completed the game in under two hours, because after writing this review, I am going to refund it.There are minor spoilers below. I mainly talk about the nature of some puzzles, without providing actualy solutions.Despite the claims on the store page, this isn't much of a hacking game. Sure, there's a terminal window that you type commands into, but in general, this is more of a test of your google-fu skills than anything. Even that isn't particularily hard, since half of the computers are "hacked" by skimming through some emails, figuring out what whacky "encoding" is used for that particular password, and looking up an online converter. The other half involves some rather odd puzzles. On a couple of occasions you are required to navigate a robot through a "maze" consisting of a single corridor with no alternative routes. This is done by typing in commands in the console using a somewhat inconsistent metasyntax, and having the robot execute them in order. Actually, there are inconsistencies all over Mu Complex. There are two puzzles that look virtually identical. The first one is solved with some quick math, the other one isn't.Oh, and there is one puzzle that requires you to sign up for a free trial for a newspaper archive, which in turn requires you to provide your credit card details. If you don't have a credit card, or have already used up the trial period in the past, you are pretty much screwed. The only option here is to look up a walkthrough that straight up tells you the password. Good luck with that.. An interesting and, at times, genuinely challenging game. Maybe a bit overpriced for the playtime you get out of it though.. Don't buy this game if u don't know how to send an email to reset ur password. The description of a command line style hacking game was an automatic hook for me. I really like the hacking theme and have tried several types. Apparently this is based on linux style commands, but even with no experience I had no trouble navigating menus. There is tab completion for most of the commands and files for ease of use. The soundtrack basically consists of long tones followed by more long tones, so I recommend muting it. The game comes with two "episodes" to complete. My playtime for episode 1 was about an hour and four hours for episode 2. I enjoyed that you had to use outside tools to complete the puzzles. Don't be afraid to use screencaps, google, or software to help with the puzzles. The storyline is pretty straightforward, but if you dig a little deeper there are a few easter eggs. Looking through the achievements I definitely missed a few things so I will probably go back for them. Great game for less than $10.. It's a shame that all you get from start\u0131ng up the game is a staring contest into a white box on the screen. Literally nothing works albeit a ton of startup crash reports on the community pages. Unless the developers get to deal with these issues, I recommend everyone to take this game off of their lists.. Game was great through episode 1, but once it got to episode 2 and introduced a few math puzzles, I just.. Nah. Logic puzzles? Fun. Math puzzles? Boring. Sorry, but that part ruined it for me.. Mu Complex is a game about hacking into an old research complex, going through people's files, and trying to help a mysterious AI called Lya. You do this by typing various available commands from a list to open files, unlock computers and make your way to even more computers to do the same. So, the consensus on this game seems to be that if you are a program/or a fan of Linux, you will be disappointed. However, I as a non-programmer, loved this code-lite "hacking" game. It's far from real hacking, obvious to even one who is not a hacker, because all these bozos keep their passwords on their computers in text files or hid with ciphers and codes that they reveal to others in emails. You are also required to use google for various other puzzles, like looking up ciphers or codes or gps coordinates. The list of available commands is small but not consistent, so that when the "camera" function shows up on a computer, for instance, you know that you must have to use it for this puzzle, removing a lot of the mystery. I know they do that to keep you from being overwhelmed, but it's a dead giveaway. There was one puzzle that was timed and required a LOT of typing. I type about 60 wpm and comparable on a number pad, but the typing for that puzzle required switching between the two and using a keystroke (the vertical bar i.e. | ) I have rarely used and so had trouble finding it quick enough to solve the puzzle. I can't imagine anyone who can't 10 finger type solving that one. (Plus no copy/paste function! The horror!) So, is this real hacking? Almost certainly not even close. Is it fun? Maybe not for programmers, but as a neophyte I definitely enjoyed it. It took me about 4 hours, but there was a LOT of idle time when I was looking stuff online or trying to figure out some programming puzzles on my own. The story is not super involved and some of the commands get tedious, but if you find it on sale, this game is worth a buy.7/10. Fun, but probably wouldn't replay it.
